Inverted Sunflower

Inverted Sunflower turns the familiar idea of a flower inside out. Instead of petals surrounding a dark centre, a bright yellow face emerges from a deep black surface, complete with wide eyes and two unapologetic teeth. The yellow handle and warm orange interior extend the reversal beyond the character itself. Handmade as a functional ceramic mug, the work plays with contrast, expectation and the peculiar personalities that can emerge from everyday objects.
